Puerto Aventuras is world famous for sports fishing, and for good reason. The good current from the Gulf of Mexico brings in a wide variety of fish, and the reliable Mexican Caribbean weather insures good fishing days year round.

One advantage of fishing from Puerto Aventuras is that the fishing spots are all very close to the marina. With Captain Walter you put your lines in the water just in front of the marina and start fishing right away. If you do a half day fishing trip, you do a real 4 hours of fishing. No wasting time motoring past unproductive waters to the hot spots - the fish are biting right near Puerto Aventuras.

The best fishing in the Riviera Maya is just off the coast. Captain Walter usually stays 2-3 nautical miles from shore. This makes for good sightseeing of the coast's white sand Caribbean beaches and fascinating Mayan ruins like Tulum, (plus it is also nice for inexperienced sailors who like to see a bit of land).

Marlin, Sailfish and More

The best fishing season is mid March to the end of June. Anglers can catch sailfish, marlin, dorado/dolphin, tuna and more.

Off season, Captain Walter can take you fishing for sailfish, king mackerel, Spanish mackerel, Dorado/dolphin, and barracuda (especially in July, August and September).

If there is no good deep sea fishing for some reason, you might decide to bottom fish for yellow tail snapper, trigger fish or grouper

Billfish (sailfish and marlin) are caught and then released to avoid depleting the local population. For an extra fee, you can have a fiberglass replica made of the fish you caught. Captain Walter takes the necessary measurements and can take care of the details for you.

The Puerto Aventuras Resort

Puerto Aventuras is located just one hour south of Cancun and 20 minutes from Playa del Carmen, Mexico. The resort has a 9-hole golf course, sandy beach, dive shops, and a central marina surrounded by shops and restaurants. Puerto Aventuras is a nice place to rent a condo for a relaxing vacation in Mexico. Captain Walter recommends renting from Blue Caribbean. They have a good reputation for reliability, and have vacation rental condos of all sizes to fit all budgets.
